Mallory Jane Weiss is a Brooklyn-based playwright whose work primarily spirals around female stories, especially as they relate to friendship, time, and finding the mythical inside the mundane. Her play BIG BLACK SUNHATS has been selected for the Great Plains Theatre Commons New Play Conference 2023; The O'Neill National Playwrights Conference 2022; and was a Clubbed Thumb Biennial Commission finalist 2020. It has been developed at The O'Neill and Clubbed Thumb with stars such as Lois Smith, Kathleen Chalfant, and Alma Cuervo. Additional plays include LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO (The O'Neill NPC finalist 2023), THE PAGE TURNERS (Clauder Competition Gold Prize 2023; Princess Grace Award semi-finalist 2022; The O'Neill NPC finalist 2021), and PONY UP (Princess Grace Award Finalist, 2019). Her play I’D LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT I’VE BEEN VERY SERIOUS THROUGHOUT THIS ENTIRE DISCUSSION, OR DAVE AND JULIA ARE STUCK IN A TREE was the winner of Playing on Air's James Stevenson Prize in 2020. It was produced starring Danny DeVito and Lucy DeVito, and directed by Moritz VonStuelpnagel. In August 2023, her play DRAWBRIDGE was named a winner of the Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Festival and is in the process of being published by Concord Theatricals. Mallory has worked with Clubbed Thumb, Portland Stage Company, The COOP, Gingold Theatrical Group, and Fresh Ground Pepper. She also works as a teaching artist in schools and theaters (Sharon Playhouse, The Hotchkiss School, Salisbury School) as well as for her independent workshops, "… The Damn Thing." In addition to her work as a playwright and screenwriter, Mallory is a Senior Creative Producer at tech start-up, Ethena, where she writes and directs video training content for over 120,000 learners.
