Abraham Zobell’s Home Movie: Final Reel… — Rabbi Moshowitz
Len Jenkin
Rabbi Moshowitz: Forgiveness. Today I am a poor pilgrim, but I was once the great Rabbi Fred Moshowitz. I had a loyal congregation of three thousand souls that listened patiently to my sermons. They abandoned this schul when they discovered I was having an affair with a member of my flock, the wife of a pious man. She was a pleasant idiot, with big jugs. My wife Miriam walked in on us one day as I was banging her in the basement of the synagogue. By the furnace, God forgive me.
Miriam threatened me. She said she would tell the congregation, the newspapers — unless I gave her a lot of money. I knew that if I gave it to her once, she would come back for more.
I arranged for Miriam to be murdered in our house, in what looked like a robbery. I paid an evil man ten thousand dollars to do this. He killed her, and was caught the next day robbing a Sunoco station. He confessed, and I went to prison for twenty years. During that time I studied the Zohar and the Book of Lights and Towers for ten hours every day. I found nothing to help me.
My life is a pointless history of selfishness, stupidity, and misery.
May I ask you a question?
