Description

Sloane Hudson, a rich, beautiful recent Ivy League graduate and product of the campus hook up culture and frat basement pong tournaments, doesn’t believe in love or marriage. She does believe in babies and wants one soon so her tummy can bounce back and she can still wear a bikini. The problem is she needs a sperm donor who passes muster. Enter Brandon, who’s got the right stats but the wrong attitude. Brandon has enough on his plate already and lives with brother Doug, the infamous “De-Fenestrator” who just fell in love with Katerina, the hooker from the Ukraine. Cabbage soup, a rare baseball card and a lizard named Pogo all play a part in this romantic comedy for cynical times.

Press Quotes

“The sharpest comedy has a way of slicing into meaty issues, and MAD LOVE, by … playwright Marisa Smith, deftly carves up love, sex, dating and commitment in the Internet age … MAD LOVE follows four young people negotiating their personal barriers to authentic intimacy — some self-made, some circumstantial. Amid the laughter, which is plentiful, Smith crafts an exploration of issues such as binge drinking, frat culture and sexual violence…” —Meg Brazill, Valley News

“… a witty and charming comedy that could only occur today — yet it’s reminiscent of 1930s and ’40s screwball comedy movies. Marisa Smith’s MAD LOVE … a hilarious and often touching comedy … a madcap romantic and comic romp in today’s mating minefield.” —Times Argus

“… abundant wit and endearing characters.” —Alex Brown, Seven Days

“… an old fashioned romantic comedy brought up to the 21st century, a sweet, heartwarming audience pleaser touched with a modern attitude.” —Madeline Schulman, The Link News

“… a contemporary, edgy, funny play …” —Let’s Go to the Theater
